PEABODY - Mr. Reginald L. Johnson, 92, of Peabody, beloved husband of the late Beverly (Hume) Johnson, passed away on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at Brooksby Village Continuing Care in Peabody.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Reginald and Gladys (Conant) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Winthrop and was a graduate of Winthrop High School.
A veteran of the Korean War, Reginald proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army serving as a Sergeant in the Army Security Agency, where he became well versed in radios and Morse code. Serving with the 328th Communication Reconnaissance Unit he made many lifelong friends, friendships he continued to foster throughout his life.
Mr. Johnson worked his entire 39-year career at the Boston Globe as a Mailer, where he was known for his strong work ethic and his attention to detail was unprecedented.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed being with his family. Les was truly happiest when the grandchildren came along, and he was able to be involved in their activities. Les and Beverly were pioneers of Brooksby Village, being one of the first couples to sign up and move in. They served as members of the Resident Council for many years and were involved in many aspects of resident life. Les enjoyed gardening and was responsible for some of the beautiful Gardens at Brooksby and loved a good game of cribbage. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
