DANVERS -Mr. Richard L. Sauchuk, 83, of Danvers, beloved husband of Diana Sauchuk, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Danvers, he was the son of the late Stephen Sauchuk and Margaret (Morey) Hamilton. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School. Richard continued his education, attending Bowdoin College and later Bridgewater State University where he received his bachelor's degree and obtained his master's degree from Salem State University.
A beloved educator, Richard dedicated his life to education and instilling a love for learning in his students. He was a gifted instructor in Chemistry and Physics and was able to enthrall even the most tentative students through his instruction and theatrics. Richard was a committed teacher at Masconomet Regional High School where he inspired countless young minds for over 37 years and was also instrumental in the set-up of their original IT system. He was determined to prepare his students for the roads ahead not only in the classroom but also as their driving instructor. Following his retirement Richard re-entered education as a Critical Shortage educator at Triton Regional High School where he continued his dedication to teaching for an additional 10 years.
A lifelong athlete, Richard excelled in sports during High School, especially football and baseball and ultimately earned a place in the Danvers High School Hall of Fame. His passion for sports led him to coaching Masconomet varsity baseball and assistant basketball coach. Richard was a high school football official and ultimately the Commissioner of the Cape Ann League high school football officials. He was an active member of the Association of New England Football Officials for 50 years and a member of the Eastern Association of Intercollegiate football officials for many years.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Richard worked hard every day to provide for his family and prepared his children well for their future and was immensely proud of their many accomplishments and milestones. He took great pride in his grandchildren and supported them with love and guidance and was truly happiest watching them grow and prosper. Richard loved to travel with his wife, especially to Aruba and regale his family, students, and friends with stories of how most anything in the world worked, usually in great detail, as well as his many experiences throughout his life. Richard will be forever remembered for his deep commitment to his students, his love for family and the lasting impact he made on those around him. He will be deeply missed.
