PEABODY – Mrs. Rita (McCool) LaPointe, 91 of Peabody, formerly of Zephyrhills, Fla., and the loving wife of 70 years to the late Henry J. LaPointe, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Jeffrey & Susan Brudnick Center in Peabody with her loving family by her side.

Born in Salem, Rita was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Alfreda (Morneau) McCool and was raised and educated in the City of Salem.

Rita worked for many years until the time of her retirement for Parker Brothers in Salem where she worked as an assembler alongside her sister Peggy where they shared many memories and laughs.

A loyal and loving wife and mother and later in life, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rita loved being surrounded by her large, loving and extended family. Rita had a passion for dancing and together her and Henry would enjoy nights out, doing just that. She also enjoyed winning at Bingo, which she often did and spending her time on crafts such as ceramics and knitting. She was devoted to her catholic faith and was a longtime member and eucharistic minister at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peabody. Above all else, Rita loved her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving Rita are her children, Nancy LaPointe of Haverhill, Michael LaPointe and his wife, Nancy of Kingston, NH, John LaPointe of Beverly, Brenda Darisse and her husband, Joseph of Topsfield, James LaPointe of Texas, and Patricia Kee of Danvers; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Henry, one grandson, John Joseph LaPointe and her many loving siblings.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rita's funeral service which will be held from O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Saturday, March 9th at 10 A.M. followed by her burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
