SALEM - Rosamond “Roz” (Coleman) Powers, loving wife of the late J. Donald Powers, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 14, 2026, surrounded by her family. Roz was a bright spirit, devoted matriarch of the family, and a cherished friend to many.

The daughter of the late George J. and Dorothy (Hayes) Coleman, Roz was a lifelong resident of Salem Willows and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem, MA. She graduated from Salem High School in 1946 and continued her education at Salem State University (then known as Salem Teachers’ College), graduating in 1950. She made wonderful friends during her high school and college years and remained close to them throughout her life.

Following graduation, Roz taught third grade at Danversport School in Danvers for seven years. She had a natural gift for connecting with children and took immense pride in her classroom, earning recognition as “Teacher of the Year” in 1952.

In 1956, Roz married the love of her life, Don. They settled into their home at the Willows, where they raised their five children. Together, they were active in many Salem community events and were proud members of the Willows Juniper Community Club. Roz always lent a hand wherever she was needed, including assisting at the Immaculate Conception Church bazaar and volunteering at the Crombie Street Shelter.

Roz was very artistic and creative, with an eye for flower arranging, gardening, and interior design. She was never one to sit still, always looking to take on her next project. Over the years, she took classes in furniture restoration, sewing, and stained-glass making. She also loved antiquing and finding unique and beautiful treasures at auctions.

In retirement, Roz and Don traveled widely, taking cruises and exploring the Americas and Europe with family and friends. They shared a genuine fascination with the history, architecture, fine arts, and landscapes they encountered along the way.

Most of all, Roz loved her family and took great joy in creating special memories. When her children were young, she frequently organized outings to the Aquarium, the Boston Ballet, the Ice Capades, and Good Harbor Beach. She relished caring for her grandchildren and enthusiastically attended their school events, games, and Irish step dance competitions. She and Don hosted many gatherings, including the family’s annual 4th of July celebration, which has meant so much to generations of their extended family and friends.

Roz had a warmth and energy that lit up any room she entered. In her later years, she frequently sat on her porch overlooking Juniper Cove and greeted every person and dog who walked by. She loved people and never stopped making others feel special.

Roz was the loving mother of John Powers and his wife Trisha, Kathy Powers, David Powers and his wife Patty, Anne Powers, and Beth Powers. She was the grandmother of Sean Powers, Meghan Carrucci and her husband Jason, Michael Powers, and Brian Powers. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

In addition to her late husband, Don, Roz was predeceased by her beloved son John, her brother George Coleman and his wife Marie, her sister Dorothy Pierce and her husband Bob, and her brother-in-law Bob Powers and his wife Gladys.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, Friday, June 5th at 11 A.M.
