PEABODY – Mrs. Sadie M. Edwards of Peabody peacefully passed on August 19th, 2023 at 96 years of age.

Sadie was born in Chelsea to Dorcas (Thistle) Moore and Ira Moore, both immigrants from Newfoundland. Sadie was proud of her heritage and spoke often of her kin and their descendants.

In 1942 Sadie met her future husband, Alfred "Jack" Edwards, an English merchant mariner rescued after his ship had been torpedoed off Cape Cod. He was brought to Chelsea to await return home and met Sadie at a dance sponsored by local veterans; they wed in 1948.

Sadie graduated from Chelsea High School, then embarked on a distinguished career with Sears Roebuck & Company as a senior correspondent, a position she held until her retirement in 1988.

Sadie is survived by her loving sister, Dorcas Webber, niece, Lori Rood, and her nephews, Russell Webber, George Moore, Steven Moore, and Jeffery Moore. She greatly enjoyed her extended family of great nieces and nephews and many generations of cousins and all their spouses. Sadie also leaves many longtime friends from her church and secular communities. A special thank you to Mary Ellen of Agespan and Odalis of Advanced Home Care for their kind service and friendship.

In addition to her parents, Sadie was predeceased by her devoted husband Jack, her brother, George Moore, sister-in-law, Joan Moore, brother-in-law, Russell Webber, and great niece, Kimberly Rood.

Sadie's faith had profound significance in her life and she found solace and guidance in her devotion to West Church; may she find eternal rest and peace in the embrace of heaven.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Sadie's funeral service which will be held at West Church Peabody, 27 Johnson St., Peabody on Thursday, August 24th, 2023 at 10 A.M. Her visitation to be held at the church prior to her service from 9:30 A.M. to 10 A.M. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody to follow.
