DANVERS – Shirley A. (Teal) McCann, 90, of Danvers, beloved wife of the late George G. McCann, passed away on February 7th, 2025 at Brightview Senior Living in Arlington, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pittsfield, Shirley was the daughter of the late Alfred and Yvonne (Heno) Teal. She was raised and educated in Pittsfield and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Shirley met her beloved husband while roller skating, a testament to her energetic nature and zest for life. An avid bowler, she spent countless hours in the bowling alley, proudly assisting all the young bowlers in the Junior Bowling League and enjoyed a good game with her husband and friends. Her love of collaboration and community extended to her role as a Girl Scout leader, where she inspired numerous young girls to lead with kindness and confidence. More than just her hobbies, Shirley was a steadfast friend who selflessly offered her help to anyone in need. A true human GPS, she possessed an uncanny ability to navigate not just the roads but the complexities of life, guiding others with her wisdom and insight. Her love for her family was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them, keeping their lives intertwined with warmth and unconditional support.
Shirley had a passion for travel, particularly by cruise ship, where she reveled in exploring new places and cultures. She loved camping under the stars and embraced the great outdoors with an adventurous spirit. Her sharp wit and sassy charm brought laughter to every gathering, and she could always put you in your place with a clever remark, drawing smiles from those around her. Shirley will be fondly remembered for her compassion, strength, and love of family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving Shirley are her children, Cheryl Burnham and her husband Michael, Deborah Van Deusen and her husband John, Karen MacLeod and her husband Glenn, who all reside in Florida and her son, David McCann and his wife Michelle of Woburn, along with her 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren, her brother, Richard Teal and his wife Bonnie of Cape Cod.
