DANVERS - Sidney Guyler Pietzsch III died on November 28th, 2022 at the New England Home for the Deaf, where she had been living for almost 7 years. Sidney died in her sleep from several conditions which finally overcame her. She had friends at her bedside, and excellent medical care from both NEHD and Care Dimensions Hospice.

Though Sidney was a lifelong student, she was most of all a teacher, in the tradition of her grandmother and namesake, Sidney Guyler Pietzsch. She loved to travel, and in her lifetime went all over Europe, South Africa, China, Russia, and more. She also lived in many different places in the United States. In the late 1980s, she finally found her home in New England and lived there ever since.

All her life she was a great and constant reader. In her last years, she kept Rylan J. Nelson and Sharon Wade busy taking her back and forth to Peabody Institute Library of Danvers and securing books to be purchased and delivered to her, which she then donated to others. She loved a good story. And while she watched some movies and TV programs, particularly on PBS, she mostly read her precious books.

Sidney loved to laugh. It was such a joy in these past years to find ways to make Sidney laugh, which she did freely and often. She enjoyed watching football and seeing old friends.

Sidney was warm, nonjudgmental, a very caring friend, and always optimistic. She never complained and smiled easily and often. She will be missed by many.

Sidney is survived by her sister, Martha Pietzsch, sister-in-law, Laura Pietzsch, four nephews - William Andrew Carter, Jordan Louis Pietzsch, Thomas Sidney Pietzsch, Samuel Wilson Pietzsch, a great-niece and two great-nephews.
