PEABODY - Stanley Hoff of Peabody died this past Thursday, May 30th, 2024 at age 92. He was a family man, Engineer, Army Reserve Officer, and Freemason. Born March 26th, 1932 in Auburn Heights, MI to Bernhard and Eldrid (Nilsen) Hoff.
During the Great depression the family relocated to Brooklyn NY, where Stanley grew up and where his younger brother Walter was born. Stanley graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1950 and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1954.
In 1955, he married Florence Elizabeth Fletcher of Newport, RI, (died in 1978) with whom he had five children: Bernhard, Andrew, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Paul. The family were Peabody residents from 1958 through 1980.
Stanley was commissioned 2nd Lt. from ROTC while at MIT, served his active duty at Fort Richardson, Alaska, and ultimately retired from the reserves in 1981 at the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He worked in a professional capacity as a Mechanical Engineer, most notably at Draper Labs at MIT where he was on the design team for the inertial guidance system for the Apollo Moon missions. He also worked at a number of other firms including Raytheon, General Electric, Singer, and Timex.
He was a lifelong Freemason, having joined in 1954, and was active with the Scottish Rite and Shriners, maintaining his membership until his death 70 years later.
Stanley is survived by his brother, four of his five children, twelve grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his visiting hours which will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) DANVERS, on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024 from 4 to 6:30 PM. Followed by military honors and Masonic funeral rite. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Stanley's memory to a charity of one's choice.
