Obituary

DANVERS - Mrs. Stasia A. (Sygowski) Laberis, 101, of Danvers, formerly of Salem, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8th, 2023, at the Seasons of Danvers with her loving family by her side.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Czeslawa (Wisniewski) Sygowski. She was raised and educated in Salem. She was married for 65 years to Marino Laberis, who predeceased her in 2006.

Stasia worked in sales at Empire Clothing Store in Salem for over 30 years, finishing her career at Sears. She was well known and loved for her friendliness, positive outlook, infectious optimism, and grace.

Her life was one of continuously giving to others. In retirement, Stasia doted upon her grandchildren and growing brood of great-grandchildren. She was an incessant reader; knitted sweaters for grandkids that then passed to great grandkids; was an avid cook; enjoyed bingo and trips to Foxwoods; and could shop 'til she dropped – usually for others. She was very active even in her last 18 months living at Seasons where she enjoyed painting, ceramics, drumming, and field trips. A great day for her ended with a chop suey sandwich at the Salem Willows and a box of Hobbs' popcorn.

As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Stasia was in her element when surrounded by her family, and she clearly was the family matriarch. She raised 6 children and loved the chaos that ensued. She was very involved in her children's lives, activities, and milestones. Celebrating their many accomplishments gave her great joy. She spread her love and caring to all who knew her.

Stasia leaves her three daughters, Susan Canty and her husband Jay of Salem; Christine O'Brien of Salem; Andrea Bean and her husband Michael of Peabody; her sons, George Laberis and his wife Pam of Burlington; Stephen Laberis of Salem; and Bill Laberis and his wife Janice Welenc of Falmouth.

Stasia leaves eight grandchildren, including Hollie Donovan and husband Brian; George Laberis and wife Megan; Allison Strout and husband Mike; Wendy Samaha and husband Kevin; William R. Laberis and wife Shanna; Stephanie Laberis and long-time partner Rez Graham; Drew Laberis and wife Kristin; and Perry Laberis and wife Sari. She also leaves 14 great-grandchildren.

Stasia is survived by two very special and loving brothers, Ted, and Louis Sygowski both of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews and scores of friends. Stasia was predeceased by her son-in-law Garry O'Brien, sister Genevieve, brothers Anthony and Edmund, and long-time family friend Bob Magnant.
