SALEM - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Theresa F. McCarthy, who passed away on June 16th, 2025 at the Hawthorne Hill Rehabilitation facility at the age of 99.

Born on April 3rd, 1926, in Marblehead, MA, Theresa was the daughter of the late Walter and Agnes (Manix) Smith. She grew up in Marblehead and later moved to Salem, where she lived most of her adult life.  She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband Arthur McCarthy, and a devoted mother to her children the late Mary McCarthy, and Shawn McCarthy, who lives in Salem.  She was the youngest member of the Smith family predeceased by her brother Walter, and her sisters, Virginia, Helen, Esther and Barbara.

Theresa worked all her adult life at Sylvania/GTE until she retired. She was often the center of family life offering hospitality to many family members during the holiday season. She hosted family gatherings at her home for years inviting grandchildren, sisters and brother, nieces, nephews and their families to celebrate.  She was the life of the party with a great sense of humor and kind personality.

Theresa was a kind and generous soul, always putting others' needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her infectious smile and warm personality.

Rest in peace, dear Theresa. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.

Theresa is survived by her son Shawn and her niece Patricia Hussey of VA, whom she raised; and, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Theresa's funeral service which will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Friday, June 20th at 11 A.M., with a visiting hour to be held prior to her service from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, 57 Orne St., Salem to follow her service.
