TOPSFIELD – Vincent Francis Guerra Jr., M.D., 92, of Topsfield, beloved husband of Jolene (Jun) Guerra, passed away on June 9th, 2026 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Schenectady, NY, Vince, as he was known to his friends and relatives, was the son of Emma (Longe) and Vincent Guerra, Sr. From an early age Vince took a keen interest in music, history and medicine, and much to his parents’ delight, he chose to pursue a career in Medicine. Vince worked hard in school, proudly graduating from Union College in 1955 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi before going on to medical school at Georgetown University. He loved his time in Washington D.C. and maintained deep connections to both Alma Maters attending countless college reunions throughout his life.
Following medical school, Vince chose McGill University in Montreal for his Internship, and an Internal Medicine residency at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y. In the early years of the Vietnam War, he served two years of military duty stateside, as Director of Medical Services at Loring Air Force Base, Maine before establishing a private medical practice in Reading, MA. After 24 years in the Reading Medical Group, he accepted an opportunity at a new Health Center in Peabody, MA sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield and worked there until he retired in 1998.
In retirement, Vince’s interest in history and music never waned, and he soon became active in the Topsfield Historical Society serving as monthly program chairman for many years, and on the Board of Trustees. As an accomplished classical and jazz musician, he continued to play piano in local big bands on the North Shore of Boston. With his wife Jolene, he shared his devotion to the Roman Catholic faith, and maintained many friendships through St. Rose of Lima Church in Topsfield.
Vincent is survived by his wife, Jolene (Jun) Guerra of Topsfield, his daughters, Frances Guerra Vaudreuil and her husband Stephen of East Greenwich, R.I., Kristine Guerra Lawrence and husband Scott of San Clemente, CA, his grandchildren, Scott and Nicholas Vaudreuil of Rhode Island, Ellen Lawrence and her husband Brian Smart of California and his brother Kyle Lawrence of California. Vincent was predeceased by his beloved son Peter Guerra.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Vince’s Funeral Mass to be held on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 at 11AM at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 12 Park St, Topsfield. A visiting hour will be held prior to Mass in the St. Rose Parish Hall from 10AM to 11AM. Burial will follow at Forest Glen Cemetery, 270 Pearl St, Reading, MA.
