Walter A.
Johnson
August 8, 1936 – February 27, 2023
DANVERS – Mr. Walter Allen Johnson, 86 of Danvers, loving husband of Judith (Churchill) Johnson, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Lowell, Walter was the only son of the late Walter and Ruth (Andrews) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Lowell, receiving his high school education at Lowell Technical Trade School.
Walter devoted his entire professional career to the Town of Danvers, working over 50 years in the community he called his home. Throughout his career with Danvers, Walter dedicated over 20 years with the Danvers Housing Authority and over 30 years as the towns Tree Warden. He endured all heights from landscaping and maintenance to painting the flag pole in Danvers Square. He was brave and truly loved improving the town in any way he could. Later in his career, Walter would tend to and maintain the grounds at St. John's Preparatory School, a true passion that lasted throughout his life.
In his leisure time, Walter could be found caring for his large vegetable garden, crafting beautiful woodwork or even assisting a friend with home improvements. He was always busy, moving from one thing to the next, thrilled by the rush of life. He was a loving and exceptional husband, father, grandfather and citizen, providing for his family and volunteering for the National Guard for over 9 years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Judith with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, Walter is survived by his daughter, Lisa Johnson and her partner, Sharon of Danvers and his son, Gary Johnson and his wife, Brenda of Danvers, his 3 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and sister, Sandy Dube and her husband, Fred of Pepperell and many nieces and nephews.
