JAMAICA PLAIN - William J. McGarry, Jr., 74, of Jamaica Plain, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Karen (Dunn) McGarry. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he was the son of the late William and Rose Marie (Kraemer) McGarry Sr.

William’s life is beautifully defined by his unwavering reliability, his deep loyalty to those he loved, and an extraordinary heart that always puts others first. To know him is to know a man of true integrity, whose genuine care for the people in his life shines through in every single interaction.

He lived by a code of dependability. This steadfast nature made him the rock of his family and a cornerstone in the life of his son, Matthew and his many lifelong friends, with bonds stretching back to his boarding school days and continuing through his much-loved fraternity brothers in college. He cared deeply about the people in his life and would routinely go out of his way to help anyone in need, offering his time, support, and strength without hesitation. Much of his career was spent in hospitality as the General Manager of the Bridgeport Holiday Inn and later as a Boston area Sales Manager. He did his absolute best to show up every day ready to work his hardest and win the trust and respect of those around him.

The true anchor of William’s heart was his beloved wife, Karen, who was the absolute love of his life. As his own days drew to a close, his deepest wish was to be with her.

William’s legacy of love lives on through his family. He was an exceptionally proud and committed family man sharing a deep bond with his granddaughter, Kiera, who brought immense joy to his life. William was a huge golfer who found great peace and camaraderie on the greens. When he wasn’t on the course, he was fiercely cheering on the New York Football Giants and Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his beloved wife, Karen (Dunn) McGarry; and his sister, Kim McGarry.

He is survived by his son, Matthew McGarry and his partner, Sarah and their daughter, Kiera and his many nieces and nephews.
