William A. Sedewitz Jr.

PEABODY - William Anthony Sedewitz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and cousin passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026 at his home surrounded by his wife and three children. He was the cherished husband of Anne; father of William Sedewitz (wife Carol), Gregg Sedewitz (wife Jayne), and Lynne Lizzo (husband James); and loving grandfather of William and Matthew Sedewitz, Emily, Lauren, and Brooke Sedewitz, and Brianna and James Lizzo. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Bolger.

Born in Mineola, NY on January 12, 1936, he was the son of the late William and Florence (Hofmann) Sedewitz. He attended Sewanhaka High School and graduated from Syracuse University School of Visual Arts with a BA degree. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. While at Syracuse, he joined ROTC and upon graduation spent three years as an Army pilot. During this time, a fellow pilot at Fort Devens introduced him to his future wife, Anne Pawlowski, the sister of the fellow pilot’s wife. They married two years later and moved to Bellerose, NY., later to Floral Park and Smithtown, NY. In December 2018 they moved to Brooksby Village, a Continuing Care Community in Peabody, MA. Recently, they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Bill worked in advertising for several years and then joined two colleagues starting Etheridge Palombo & Sedewitz Inc., a small advertising agency specializing in pharmaceuticals. He retired in 1999 and fully enjoyed the many years of retirement that followed.

He loved gardening and could be found around his home every weekend planting, pruning, or mowing his meticulously kept yard. And in retirement, he found great joy tending the yards of his children.

His deep faith led him to take advanced catechist classes and in turn taught CCD for many years. With his wife, he especially enjoyed working with engaged couples in the Pre-Cana program.

Shortly after moving to Brooksby Village in December 2018, he and his wife became members of the Brooksby Protestant Church where he served on the parish council and as an Offertory Stewart. At Brooksby, he loved the history lectures, trips, and especially the friendships cultivated over the past several years.

Throughout his life, Bill was known for his quiet kindness, honesty, and willingness to help others. His love of family, however, was at the very center of his life. Nothing mattered more to him than his deep and abiding love for Anne, their children, their spouses, and their seven grandchildren. He cherished the time spent with them and took great pride in each one of them.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Celebration of Life service will be held at Brooksby Village Chapel, 100 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody on November 8, 2026 at 1:30. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
