Since 1922, our Salem funeral home has been honored to serve the families of the North Shore community. Founded by Henry J. O’Donnell, our business has passed through the practiced hands of multiple generations, remaining family owned and operated for a century. The first funeral home in Salem to operate out of a residential building rather than a storefront, The Henry J. O’Donnell and Sons Inc. Funeral Home was ahead of its time and has continued to evolve to meet the needs of our families.
We moved to our current location on Washington Square in 2019, taking on a year-long renovation to update the sprawling home while maintaining its classic charm. Families who visit our Salem funeral home will enjoy over 100 parking spaces, full handicap accessibility, technological features, tasteful decorations, and the largest capacity of any North Shore funeral home. We take great pride in providing services for our families’ every need, including cremation. All cremations are performed locally and according to our five-step cremation protocol, which ensures complete peace of mind that your loved one is receiving the best possible care.
As well as having the best facilities of any Salem funeral home, we also have the honor of having the best staff. Our team at O’Donnell is well-known for their unmatched patience, compassion, and dedication to excellence. Families can feel more comfortable knowing that the funeral directors and assistants they work with are actual members of their community who are invested in keeping our relationships strong. In fact, it wouldn’t be out of place to see our employees perusing the exhibits at the Peabody Essex Museum, touring the Salem Witch Museum, or enjoying a meal at Turner’s Seafood at Lyceum Hall. Our staff have no problem treating our families as friends and neighbors because, well, they are!
